WHERE I TAKE OUT OF TOWN GUESTS

CHINATOWN - Visit Sri Mariaman Hindu temple, walk around Temple, Smith and Trenganu Street.  Look at markets/stalls, shop for touristy knick knacks, Chinese baked goods etc.

Ice desserts (Debbie F recommendation) 67 Temple Street
Best bakery Tong Heng Confectionery 285 South Bridge Rd
(right in front of Buddha Tooth temple)

Temples - Buddha Tooth temple.
Favorite temple - the one on Telok Ayer Street.

DIM SUM - go to Yam Cha - an institution
NOODLES - go to Mr. Wong @19 Smith Street, fun to take a photo of him stretching his handmade noodles

LITTLE INDIA -  Visit Indian Hindu temple on Serangoon, show Bangle Shop, show Mustafa, do Henna tatoos.

INDIAN FOOD - Banana Leaf is great b/c you can eat on banana leaves so a cultural experience.

ARAB QUARTERS - See Sultan Mosque, walk along Arab street for shops, visit Haji Lane for more contemporary things.

LEBANESE FOOD - Beirut Grill - vegetarian moussaka amazing.

MUSEUMS - So many fantastic museums!  Our favorite is Asian Civilizations Museum.  For a more unique experience, head to the Peranakan Museum, much more unique to the Singapore story.  Afterwards, you can eat at True Blue Cuisine, it's Peranakan food so order Rendang and pomelo salad, this is also on Armenian Street.

TOURS - Hop on and off bus is fun, I send people on that if I can't spend the day with them.  The Bumboat ride is an even better way to see parts of Singapore.  For those with more time in Singapore, I think there are so many choices of walking/historical/cultural tours.

MODERN - it's fun to show the CBD skyline, Merlion, Marina Bay Sands area, Clarke Quay etc.  Walking down Orchard Road is always fun for shopping.

PAMPERING - Pedi/mani at LUSH in Holland village also foot massage at the Foot Reflexology above 7/11 in Holland Village

Coastal settlement

Jonna shared this Melbourne type of restaurant and a great bakery.

Café Melba
There are days when we really, really want to be Easties. And a Sunday at Café Melba might make you want to move too - this café exudes that laidback, unperturbed cool that only East-enders seem to possess. Located in the one and only Goodman Arts Centre, Café Melba delivers quality, unpretentious nosh made with the freshest ingredients possible. Come on, these guys even cure their own bacon!
While their food is top-notch, what we really adore is their alfresco dining - the space is so cleverly designed that it manages to be cozy and intimate, yet breezy and private all at once. They also do a mean brunch (almost everyone's favourite meal), and guess what? Gather those tiny tots cos they dine for free every weekday till the end of October. Melbournians, you don't want to miss this one.
Café Melba, 90 Goodman Road, Goodman Arts Centre, Singapore 439053, p. 6440 6068, Mon-Fri 10am-10pm, Sat-Sun 8am-10pm

The Fabulous Baker Boy
First off, we cannot get over that name. Uh-may-zing! Some may recognize Juwanda Hassim from the theatre scene, but if you're not familiar with the name, you'll soon be familiar with his tasty cakes. This bakery/café has a daily menu of both sweet and savoury treats, so if you work in the area, we highly recommend this place for a midday snack.
We love that they use dolphin-safe tuna (we're impressed by the consideration to detail), but we're really bowled over by the cakes here. Spiced Apple Cake, a seriously rich salted caramel brownie, and red velvet fans - feel free to dig in. Big plus: it's located at the charming Viridian Art House, which is right opposite Clarke Quay, but a whole lot, how do we say, quieter (read: cultured). And they serve all-day breakfast on Sunday!
The Fabulous Baker Boy, The Foothills, 70 River Valley Road, Singapore 179037, p. 6694 8336, Tue-Sat 1145am-9pm, Sun 10am-5pm

The other guy (who sounded very nice on the phone and takes people to Sarimbun Island) is at Maxout Hydrosports (www.maxouthydrosports.com).  If you go to Sarimbun, tell me how you like it.  Seletar Island near Punggol had too much garbage for my taste, but that may be the same everywhere in Singapore.

MASSAGES
Recommendation from Michelle Bellanca

-->
Hi Sarah, The other masseuse who we like is Yus.  I think that I gave you her # a while back but just received a text from her that she has a new #.  She does house calls or you can go to her massage place.  It's off Bukit Timah Rd.  Here's her new #:  83599442.  xoxo Michelle
1.  Post-natal masseuse:  Her name is Rohani.  She's wonderful.  Her # is 9750-5238.  Even if it's too late for the "full deal" having her come to your house for a series of post-natal massages w/her special oil and techniques would be lovely.

FILIPINO RESTAURANTS TO TRY STILL:

  • Casual: 1) Mang Kiko's Lechon at 121 Somerset Road (Scape Youth Park, opposite Orchard Cineleisure)
Kopitiam hawker setting. Mainly lechon manok, liempo and pork barbecue ang menu. Masarap So far, sa kanila rin yung best leche flan na natikman namin sa SG so far: smooth, on the chewy side, tama ang tamis at crema. Opportunity area yung caramel na on the burnt side.
    2) Lucky Plaza: a) Inasal on the 4th floor b) Kabayan on the 3rd floor
Fancy: 1) Calle Real at 425 East Coast Road
We haven't been there, but the facebook reviews look tempting. Check it out
    2) Gerry's Grill at 51 Cuppage Road
Typical grill resto bar sa Pinas. Medyo matagal nga lang ang service pero sana malas lang kami sa waiter on that day.
    xoxo, B&R
Note: Dati yung 7,107 Islands sa Marina Square ang the best, pero nagsara na sila. Another option na nagsara na rin ay ang Bonifacio sa 35 Kreta Ayer Road.
